My rankings of the Primus units!
Today I am going to break down one of the factions I consider a fan favorite. Lots of people like to play Primus because Jason once again developed an incredibly illustrated faction. On the battleground Primus is characterized by toughness and defensive skills, mixed in with a couple extremely powerful top end monsters. (Next up is Parada!)
Here is my Primus tier list! (non-blurry version is here!)

- Superb Tier: Monarch Coatl, Amazon Champion, Greater Wyvern, Sabertooth Hodag (I moved the Sabertooth Hodag to S-Tier last minute as reflected on the link above!)
- A Tier: Tortuloid Bladebreaker
- B Tier: Darktrench Yacumama, Feral Hydra, Tortuloid Soldier, Mystic Witch
- C Tier: Iguannax Archers, Jungle River Kraken
- D Tier: Amazon Javelineer, Amazon Sentinel, Bogdeep Witch, Wild Wyvern
D TIER: Amazon Javelineer, Yugolori Sentinel, Bogdeep Witch, Wild Wyvern
Yugolori Sentinel (3 defense and Parry 2) and Bogdeep Witch (Shockwave and 4 Rank) are both decent support units, the Sentinel for additional defensive support and the witch for spellcasting, but both have limitations beyond that. The Amazon Javelineer would be more useful if they had a ranged attack that didn’t have only one use. Wild Wyvern is one of the worst values in the game, compared to other units that cost 6 gold. Still, the 3 movement can be helpful for players with an abundance of gold.
C TIER: Iguannax Archers, Jungle River Kraken
This was a tough decision but ultimately I placed Iguannax Archers in the C Tier. With Ambush, they are a good range unit, but they are a relatively fragile and don’t fit in as well as other Primus units with the overall strategy of absorbing hits and grinding down the enemy forces. This puts them at a slightly lower tier for me, but maybe I am underrating them. Jungle River Kraken does fit that absorbing hits and crushing the front lines strategy, and Amphibious is really nice. It has great attack and defense, but that’s really all. Jungle River Kraken might be a little underrated by me as well, but it’s a bit of a basic unit.
B TIER: Darktrench Yacumama, Feral Hydra, Tortuloid Soldier, Mystic Witch
Having an Aquatic unit is a really nice little twist for Primus, and Darktrench Yacumama can both deliver and absorb the pain. Like other Aquatic units, it gets stuck rather easily. Feral Hydra is similar to Jungle River Kraken, but I give it the nod to a higher tier because of Menace and the outside chance to hit more than one enemy with Multi-Attack. Tortuloid Soldier is a good unit. With 4 defense at only 3 gold it’s a great value. I have it in B tier because it lacks some a high attack (something that holds a couple of Primus units back). Mystic Witch is overpriced as a raw spellcaster, but that Runestone ability is what gets Monarch Coatl or Greater Wyvern into the game free of gold cost… and if Primus manages to get those two units on the board together it’s pure devastation! Because the Mystic Witch can do 50% of the job herself and leaves gold on the table for the other 50%, they become a crucial unit.. even if they can’t really do anything else at a 6 gold level.
A TIER: Tortuloid Bladebreaker
I was so close to putting the Tortuloid Bladebreaker in S Tier… So close. I decided to keep it in A tier because of the 1 attack. But enough of the negative, this unit is an absolute tank. Tortuloid Bladebreaker is a great value at 5 gold for 8 health and would be decent even without the abilities. Those abilities are what makes it special- Enemies have to hit on the Parry 2, and even if the attack lands it gets reduced by 1 damage thanks to Spikeskin. Tortuloid Bladebreaker is one of the best overall attack-absorbers in the game and is an incredible defensive unit. The Tortuloid Bladebreaker really excels at gaurding a resource center, and Primus often desperately needs resources!
S TIER: Monarch Coatl, Amazon Champion, Greater Wyvern, Sabertooth Hodag (I moved the Sabertooth Hodag
Let’s start with the Sabertooth Hodag– I had it in A tier until the last minute, so for me it’s a comparable level to the Tortuloid Bladebreaker. The Sabertooth Hodag has Spikeskin also, and Stealth, which makes it a great, great defensive unit. I had to put it in S-Tier though because of Severing Bite. With Stealth, the Hodag usually is going to get at least one opportunity if not more to rip up an enemy with not only 2 damage, but knocking off 2 attack skill as well. Now, when that enemy attacks the Hodag, it’s initial attack is lessened and then lessened again by Spikeskin. All things considered, the Sabertooth Hodag is really challenging for melee units to eliminate and if they are successful, they are usually left with serious battle scars! War Horn is considered OP by some players, so that alone puts Amazon Champion in high regard… But beyond that she is a melee queen. Her Parry 4 combined with 5 health makes her a legit, legit fighter when needed, but she is equally adept at commanding and leading from the backlines as a lead Captain. Greater Wyvern is a fearsome beast, combining a 6 attack with flying and 3 movement. Like other Primus units it features defensive abilities, including Spikeskin and Stealth (when on Jungle tiles only). Greater Wyvern is a terror lurking around the battleground and can be outright dominant in certain battles. Monarch Coatl is the best unit in the game. 5 Rank Captains are always elite. 3 movement (flying!) and good defense is really useful as well. Arcane Blast is probably a top 3 spell and has the potential to wipe out multiple units. When you put it all together, Monarch Coatl stands (or hovers) above all the rest!
Remember, you can make your tiers here! Let me know where I totally screwed up and what I overrated or underrated… and stay tuned for Parada!
